Potter's Profile
Janice Fry
Janice became interested in ceramics at about the age of five, when she watched a potter throwing on a wheel at an ‘Ideal Homes’ exhibition.
Some years later after attending art school, she specialised in ceramics, gaining a Higher BTEC Dip. at Southampton College of Art, now Solent University. From there she went on to complete a teaching qualification.
Janice taught ceramics at Eastleigh College of Further Education in Hampshire, from 1986 to 2004. Her students were of all abilities, from those with special needs; 16 to 18 year olds, GCSE, A Level and City and Guilds, with one of her students winning a City and Guilds Gold Medal for Excellence.
Janice currently runs the Pottery Workshops for Romsey Art Group members, at the Mountbatten Gallery, Lee.
Her studio is at her home in the New Forest, where she makes a wide range of ceramics, mostly thrown on the wheel.
